Smart Lipo is usually done in a doctor’s office or clinic. Before the procedure, the doctor will mark the targeted areas and a local anesthetic is used to numb the area. A very small Cannula, or tube, approximately 1.0 mm to 2.0 mm in diameter containing a laser fiber is inserted into the skin. The cannula is moved back and forth delivering the laser’s energy to the fat cells, causing them to rupture, and then suctioned out. The fluid released from the fat cells is also removed by the body’s natural waste system. The laser also causes small blood vessels to coagulate (gel) immediately on contact, thus resulting in less bleeding and swelling. The laser also affects the collagen in the skin which later causes the skin to tighten and shrink gradually over the next 6-8 weeks. The treatment takes about 30-45 mins.
